Career Development for Young Adults

One of our greatest strengths is our ability to place students in great jobs in Sedona.   Unlike many transitional programs, which have numerous students competing for the same job, Red Mountain offers an environment in which the community is extremely receptive to, and supportive of, our students working.   The typical Red Mountain student has their choice of multiple job placements while in our care.

Developmentally speaking, young adulthood is naturally a time of self-discovery and decision-making as it relates to education and vocation. Many of our students, however, come to us lacking a sense of direction, interest or intrinsic motivation.  We provide the opportunity for career development and exploration as a way to help students begin to conceptualize their futures.

While in our program, students have access to The Greenwood System Career Matching and Personality Report. This assessment generates helpful, individualized information that students can use to make decisions about educational paths and future career directions.

The Greenwood System is a research-tested, reliable, and valid career matching process that uses up-to-date psychometric tests to explore four domains which include Abilities, Interests, Values, and Personality. The intersection of these four domains is where the Greenwood System finds the best career matches.

Students who choose to complete the assessment review the findings with their treatment team and formulate short-term and long-term plans that can help them reach their career goals. For students who previously lacked motivation. direction and a sense of purpose, this process can propel them forward with newfound excitement about their future.

Red Mountain has a 100% job placement record.   In short, if you want to work while you’re here, you will.  But we take it a step further, also helping identify long-term passions and a clear career path.

Red Mountain students often had little or no sustained success in the job market prior to enrolling with us. Some have had brief forays into careers that were cut short because emotional issues or negative behavior hampered their performance. Our experienced staff members specialize in helping our students build confidence through success in the workplace.

Behavioral issues, time management, ADHD, trauma, depression, social anxiety, and substance abuse are all issues which can interfere with young adults successfully entering the workforce. At Red Mountain Sedona (RMS), we help our students overcome these obstacles and enjoy vocational success.

Each student is assigned an experienced case manager, who helps them navigate the logistical and emotional pitfalls that might otherwise make securing and keeping gainful employment impossible.

The case managers and clinical team offer assistance in the following areas:

  • Career counseling.
  • Vocational training.
  • Resume building.
  • Job interview skills.
  • Following through after an interview.
  • Time management to ensure timely arrival for work each day.
  • Balancing work and play.
  • Handling workplace conflict.

In short, we help our students succeed at work. They learn how to get a job, keep it, and enjoy doing it!

The fact that many of us have lived in the Sedona area for a decade or longer also means we are deeply connected in the business community. Sedona typically experiences a labor shortage, meaning the community has more available jobs than workers to fill them. This phenomenon, along with our expertise in job placement, makes Red Mountain an ideal place for young people to start experiencing real success at work. Knowing what it takes to succeed at work can only be fully appreciated by doing a real job. We are fortunate at RMS to have a network of local organizations that are ready and willing to assist our students in gaining this priceless experience. Along with our expert clinical team who can often nip potential work problems in the bud, this network makes for a potent recipe for work success.

I learned to recognize and control my emotions, especially my frustrations, and I learned how to help others work through their stuff as well. I was able to realize a lot of the potential I have, while also challenging myself in ways I didn’t think I could be challenged.
