Aftercare Treatment Program

Red Mountain Sedona is an aftercare treatment program for young adults offering professional clinical services and independent living. When a friend or loved one completes treatment, it is definitely a time to rejoice. Such an accomplishment is hard-earned, and it is often impossible for many of us to understand the kind of dedication, struggle, and tenacity that it requires to come through an addiction program.

But after the program, after the intense therapy and re-creation, a young adult still requires care. There is much more work to do, living in a world full of their addiction, but not being able to touch it. During the weeks, months and even years after completing our transitional living program, young adults in recovery are still at risk for relapse. It is vital that they get the support and care that they need to continue their new, healthy lifestyle. Aftercare programs help minimize the risk of relapse and keep recovering young adults moving forward on the road to a complete drug or alcohol-free life.

It is our goal at Red Mountain Sedona that we as a team individualize your or your loved one’s treatment plan to fit your own personal needs. Our students gain hope, insight, tools, and strength to live a life of purpose and fulfillment. Call us at (928) 550-6137 to speak to one of our knowledgeable staff today.

Aftercare Program for Young Adults

Addiction specialists recognize that relapse is a hallmark symptom of addiction. Young adults, most specifically those with co-occurring disorders such as depression or anxiety—will thrive on the benefits of aftercare.

The benefits of aftercare are strong and make a profound difference in the life of a recovering addict. Aftercare provides a safe environment, as well as an atmosphere of understanding with other young adults who are struggling with addiction. Students will receive continued individual counseling and will participate in a variety of diverse support groups. RMS’s independent living program will provide the young adult with a safe, ideal place to cross the bridge from addiction treatment to a crazy, overwhelming world full of addictions.

Red Mountain Sedona’s idyllic aftercare program includes random testing for drug or alcohol use to help the clients stick to their individual recovery goals. We also boast excellent and unique aspects of our program such as outdoor therapy, martial arts and vocational training and career counseling. We reap the benefits of the outdoors in beautiful Sedona, Arizona, and take advantage of the breath-taking views all year round through our various activities.

Just a few of the things our aftercare program addresses are:

  • Relapse prevention skills
  • Emotional regulation skills
  • Recognizing and addressing triggers
  • Anger and stress management
  • Family dynamics
  • Development of relationship skills
  • Vocational skills or job skills development

Importance of Aftercare in Recovery

With the help of our highly-trained counselors, case managers, mentors and support staff, Red Mountain Sedona addresses each component of life after addiction, and works to help our young adults work with each one.

These components include:

Learning About Triggers: Our students learn how to best identify and cope with triggers through individual and group therapy, workshops, professional lectures, and learned awareness of their surroundings. Trauma or even strong emotional reactions can trigger the addictive response. While individuals may initially begin identifying these triggers during in-patient treatment, a return to liberated, unstructured living environments can often trigger old issues or introduce new challenges, thus tempting the use of their addiction strategies again. Students learn how to best deal with these through a myriad of techniques in order to move more safely through situations.

Relapse Prevention: No one is perfect, and even with the best intentions, a relapse can occur. This might happen with just one joint or one drink and it is vital to address the situation immediately. Even though they only “lapses,” they often cause a downward spiral into serious abuse again, from either the guilt, or the recognition of something they once needed every day.

A key component to every successful aftercare plan is a prepared response to such temptations. This could be having a list of family, friends, or a 12-Step sponsor that can be contacted in the event of a trigger or having a solid plan on what to do in particular situations, such as walking away, calling a cab, or excusing themselves from the situation comfortably. We know that pondering the outcomes of relapse and creating a plan to address a slip-up will help to reduce the risk for serious relapse.

Ongoing Counseling and Therapy: Continuing therapy is vital to the long-term success of any recovering young adult. This provides them with the opportunity to continue to work on underlying issues that may have caused their addiction and might be the key to an effective recovery.

Red Mountain Sedona works with recovering young adults to continue the change that they have worked so hard to accomplish. Our unique program is successfully proven, and will give each and every student the care and respect they deserve. Call us today at 855-998-5272 to discover how we can truly—and personally—help you.
