Kevin Ries, LPC

Primary Therapist

Kevin has worked in the mental health field since 2011, starting as a direct care staff at a therapeutic boarding school, and as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) since 2018. Kevin integrates attachment-informed and polyvagal perspectives with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help students build psychological flexibility and take meaningful action in alignment with their values. The goal is not to “fix” who you are, but to cultivate greater safety, self-understanding, relational freedom, and a life organized around meaning rather than fear. Kevin’s work focuses on supporting adolescents and young adults as they navigate depression, anxiety, social phobia, oppositional or defiant behavior, and substance use disorders. His approach is compassionate and skills-based, using nature and authentic human connection to cultivate growth.

Outside of work, some of Kevin’s most formative experiences have come from time spent in wild places. For most of his 20s and 30s, it was normal for Kevin to spend 70+ nights a year in a tent, wandering off-trail to quiet mountain lakes, exploring desert canyons, and cooking creative meals wherever he pitched camp. That passion led Kevin to wilderness therapy where he guided teens through the Alaskan rainforest by canoe, and later as an outdoor guide for men in recovery for substance addiction throughout the southwest.

Over time Kevin brought that spirit into a clinical setting. From Graduate Teaching Assistant at Prescott College to Child and Family therapist at the Guidance Center in Flagstaff, Arizona, to school-based outpatient therapist at Whitefish High School, Kevin has developed an approach that is grounded, relational, and practical. Kevin's mission is to offer a space where evidence-based therapy, metaphor, and human connection come together. This is where Kevin's years in the field and in clinical settings meet: helping students feel seen and supported as they navigate through early adulthood. Outside of work, Kevin enjoys spending time with his wife, son, and dog, often in the natural world.
