Steve has been involved in the mental health field since 2011 as an Executive Director for Xtreme Sports for Veterans, a non-profit working with returning combat veterans utilizing extreme sports to introduce and integrate veterans into mental health and Department of Veterans Affairs services while offering a space for community and growth. Steve has also worked as a case manager for the veterans treatment court and the state of Montana Military Affairs, filing benefit claims for veterans and their family members. Steve has also been a peer mentor with the Wounded Warrior Project and the Missoula Veterans Treatment Court.
Steve spent 4 years working for the Department of Veterans Affairs, providing mental health care and case management services. Steve’s areas of focus include PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, and substance abuse treatment. As a licensed social worker, Steve utilizes DBT and CBT. Steve uses evidence based treatments in conjunction with other holistic approaches to empower clients and support their self determination self discovery journey.
Steve holds a Master's of Social Work from the University of Montana and an undergraduate degree in Sociology from Washington State University. Steve continues his lifelong journey of learning and is working toward other certifications and treatment modalities to provide the best possible care and support to our clients and families.
When not at Red Mountain, Steve enjoys spending time with family, along with their 3 rescue dogs and 2 rescue cats. Steve and his spouse also spend time with their 4 children and 7 grandchildren during their visits. Steve and his spouse continue to have adventures in their Volkswagen bus, camping and exploring with others.
